For Mulberrys Garment Care, the Minneapolis market is no longer enough. The dry-cleaning company, which brands itself as the first to locally offer pickup and delivery service at the touch of an app, is now expanding its scope to include the San Francisco area.
Company owner Dan Miller recently purchased GreenStreets which operates ten storefront locations and two proprietary Cleaning Labs in the Bay area.
“Mulberrys is on a mission to establish the first national garment care brand,” he said. “We
are thrilled to build upon GreenStreets local success while introducing Mulberrys’ eco-friendly laundry service.”
The sale officially closed on December 1.
Miller set his sights on the San Francisco area because he knows it well; after all, his father
lives there. He also wanted to purchase a company whose visions of sustainability closely
mirrored his own.
“GreenStreets had the same hanger recycling program and used the same green technology,” he noted.
Combined, Mulberrys and GreenStreets have brought in $10 million in 2016.
While Miller planned to keep the GreenStreets name during the acquisition process, the
company will fall under the heading of Mulberry’s after the transition is complete.
GreenStreets co-founder Kevin Kneafsey added his thoughts on the merging of the
companies: “We really admire Mulberry’s vision for the future of garment care and are excited to take these next steps together.”
Entering the California market is a good fit in Miller’s mind.
“San Francisco and Silicon Valley are among the most discerning consumer markets in the
U.S and we are thrilled to build upon GreenStreets’ local success while introducing Mulberrys’ eco-friendly laundry service, cutting-edge technology, and affordable prices to the Bay Area,” he said.
The new Mulberrys Bay Area locations include ten stores in San Francisco, Mission Bay, South Beach, Marina/Cow Hollow, Belmont, Burlingame, San Carlos and Palo Alto.
They will be staffed by 65 local employees.
Currently, Mulberrys’ locations in Minnesota cover St. Paul, Edina, Eagan, St. Louis Park,
Roseville and Minneapolis.
