Dry Cleaning Vs. Wet Cleaning
By Mulberrys
There are so many ways to clean your clothes and textiles, so how do you decide which is the best way to clean your fabrics? It’s best to know what is actually happening to them before you decide how you are going to keep your threads clean.
Dry Cleaning:
This is a type of cleaning where a chemical other than water is used. This type of cleaning is for fabrics that would become damaged in a washing machine and dryer. The process begins by an inspection of all stains and other spots that are treated with stain remover to make their removal simpler. After that the clothes are submersed in a liquid that is not water. The clothes are in a stainless steel basket that rotates allowing the liquid to flow through them. After this the process known as post-spotting begins. This is when the cleaner uses a variety of different chemical preparations along with steam, water, air and a vacuum to remove a stain. After this the fabric is pressed and packaged. At Mulberrys, we use toxin-free agents and environmentally friendly materials, which makes our process “Green Dry Cleaning”.
This type of cleaning is reserved for fragile fabrics but does not mean that it is entirely harmless for your fabrics. If you dry clean something too often it can become worn out.
Wet Cleaning:
This is also known as Green Cleansing. This method of textile cleaning that uses gentle washing machine along with biodegradable soaps and conditioners. What’s great about Wet Cleaning is it can be used for some clothing that says “Dry Cleaning Only” on the tag. It is also recognized as one of the most environmentally friendly ways to clean textiles available. While it is safe to clean virtually any piece of clothing with Wet Cleaning, it is not always the best option and you should ask your cleaner what the recommend for the clothing you are considering.
At Home Cleaning:
This is no doubt the cleaning method that you are most familiar with. This process is convenient for day to day clothes although if you have items which you are particularly fond of, it is recommended that you air dry them as opposed to putting them in the dryer. Air drying does not put as much stress on your clothes as a dryer does and will help your favorite clothes last longer. At home cleaning ruins many types of clothing like Cashmere and clothing that has “Dry Clean Only” tags.
